FAQ - Men's Getaway
|
What will we do?
See the tentative schedule here.
Can I bring my Wife?
Actually...yes! We have a female head cook, but we are looking for some kitchen volunteers! She can get her own private room and she could even let you stay with her in her private room. We just ask that the ladies don't try to join the men for meals or for the sessions. We plan to financially appreciate these ladies with gratuities. Contact Austin for more details.
Where is this hosted?
We will be at Master Plan's Three Trails Ranch, about 30 minutes northeast of Durango.
Who is Master Plan Ministries?
Master Plan Ministries has been helping fulfill the Great Commission in South West Colorado and around the world since 1985. Learn more here! We have been hosting men's getaways for over 30 years. See our statement of faith here.
Why is it so affordable?
MPM owns Three Trails Ranch and also the speakers are MPM staff who raise their own support or MPM Board members. We pay our head cook, but are inviting volunteers to come help in the kitchen but if we don't have enough, we may ask the men to help take a shift in the kitchen and we are asking the men to help clean up our common spaces at the end of the getaway.
What if I can't afford the retreat cost?
We don't want money to be the reason you don't go. We are offering a handful of scholarships to the retreat. If you get a scholarship, we ask that you are ready to put in some extra effort in the kitchen and stay longer at the end of the retreat for clean up. If you go to a local church, sometimes they will give scholarships to an event like this if you ask. Call or text Austin if you need a scholarship. 970-749-7873
Should I bring my young son?
We really want to reach young men at this retreat. Reaching the next generation of men is on our hearts. However, we will not have any child care, and we can't let youngsters roam around without adult supervision. We want you and all participants to get the most out of the retreat as possible. Also, there will likely be some PG-13 testimonies and topics that we'll address. We will try to prep you for those as the schedule gets confirmed. If you bring your son, you should plan to debrief the retreat with him 1-on-1 before you get home. It is your responsibility to guide your son in the right direction with things he may hear at this men's retreat. However, we believe that a Christian environment is a better place to learn about these adult topics compared to on YouTube, TicToc, or at a public school.
Boys around age 11 and over are welcome as long as they are able to sit through up to 2 hour worship / teaching sessions, and participate or listen during the men's small groups. If they get restless we ask that you'd take them for a short walk or talk rather than cut them loose in the surrounding wilderness. Bringing a quiet activity they can do in a seat (i.e. a book, Rubik's cube or even a small video game on mute, not earbuds) is not optimal, but is likely better than them not coming at all. You know your son's attention span. We all have a responsibility to reach the hearts of the next generation of young men!
Registration is discounted for students! There will be features in the program that will be aimed at recognizing the importance of the youth and encouraging their enjoyment of the event. During free time, there is a pool table, foosball, and other games that are available. It will be a fun and rewarding for them.
What else should I bring?

Can I come if I am not a Christian or have never been to a men's getaway / other MPM retreat before?
Yes! We think that any natural born man would really enjoy this retreat. It will also help if you are open minded to the claims of Jesus, and are willing to listen to several men share stories about how God changed their lives and willing to listen to engaging messages from the Bible. There will be periodic times of group singing too, but you you can just listen and observe if you'd like.
Are church pastors and other ministry leaders invited?
Yes, we'd love to have you!
What time does it start and end?
Men can arrive anytime after 6:30PM on Friday for onsite registration and settling into rooms. We will have our first big group session, orientation, and welcome meeting at 8:30PM. Please eat dinner before arrival.
We will wrap up around 11:30AM on Sunday and each man will be asked to help clean up their living areas. We will provide an opportunity to make a sack lunch for you to take for the drive home.
Can I come late or leave early?
Feel free to come late or leave early. We understand that some men have responsibilities in church on Sunday and every retreat several men leave to serve. We commend that. We do ask that you pay the full amount for a ticket even if you will be missing a meal or two to simplify our processes. If you have questions about this please contact Austin.
Who will be teaching the Word?
Master Plan staff, board members, or other men that are trusted ministry partners of Master Plan. As those men are confirmed, we'll announce via email as the event gets closer. There will be other men helping MC, sharing their testimonies, and leading worship.
